Recently, Siemens Healthineers and the Corindus Vascular Robotics reached an acquisition agreement. Under the agreement, Siemens Healthineers will acquire Corindus shares for $4.28 per share for a total consideration of $1.1 billion. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019 if approved by Corindus shareholders and regulatory authorities.
The acquisition is an important strategy of Siemens Healthineer's clinical treatment business. Siemens Healthineers further optimizes image-based minimally invasive surgery by combining its cardiovascular and neurointerventional treatment systems with Corindus' innovative technology
Corindus is the global technology leader in robotic assisted vascular intervention in the United States. Corindus mainly focus on the developing, manufacturing and marketing of robotic systems for minimally invasive surgery. These surgical systems help doctors accurately guide the operation of catheters, guidewires, balloons or stent implants by merging images. The doctor does not have to stand on the edge of the angiographic surgery bed as usual, but instead controls the surgical process through an independent control module, thus reducing the dose of radiation absorbed by the doctor.
Corindus' products can simplify today's medical processes. Robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery can shorten treatment time, improve treatment accuracy, improve the standardization of clinical surgery, and ultimately increase clinical outcomes. This is the strategic focus of Siemens Healthineers’s clinical treatment business unit.
In the future, the CorPath system developed by Corindus will be combined with Siemens Healthineer's angiography system. Previously, Siemens Healthineers has been one of the leading suppliers of angiographic systems on the market, and its related products provide high-quality images for use before and during interventional therapy for minimally invasive treatment. Thanks to the addition of precision robotic assist systems, Siemens Healthineer's market leadership in image-guided minimally invasive surgery has been further enhanced to provide a richer product portfolio for minimally invasive surgery. This expansion strengthens Siemens Healthineers's position in clinical treatment and strengthens its role as the industry's leading solution provider for the entire treatment process.
The combination of the medical digitalization of Siemens Healthineers and artificial intelligent robotic system of Corindus offers more positive possibilities for future medical care.
